Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) (erst. Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Authority)  was created by Ordinance No XXXIV of 1985 on 4 July, 1985. The objective of Ordinance was to construct a Multipurpose Bridge over the mighty River, Jamuna.  It was further amended in November 23, 1998 (Act. XXI of 1998)]. In order to keep consistency of it’s works the government has changed it’s name as Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA).  According to last amended Ordinance the following task are assigned to the authority:

1              undertake feasibility studies for the establishment of bridge or for the construction of toll roads;

2              prepare comprehensive plans for the establishment of bridge or for the construction of toll roads for the consideration and approval of the Government;

3              take all necessary actions for the implementation of the plans approved by the Government under clause (b);
